At Rifthold Library, we have a number of computers available for our patrons to use for free. These are connected to the internet and equipped with a few standard software applications such as the Microsoft suite including Word and Excel. Because these are public facilities provided at no charge, there are a few policies in place that must be abided by when making use of this resource.
Computer Usage Policy
- Privacy cannot be guaranteed. These are public facilities in an open plan library environment. Please be aware that the library cannot guarantee privacy of anything you do on these computers, and in fact anything you do or access on these computers may be monitored, recorded, accessed or inspected by City of Rifthold staff or law enforcement. Usage of these computers constitutes consent to this policy.
- User must be a current card holding member of Rifthold Library, and have their membership card or proof of membership available at all times while using the computers.
- Parents/guardians who apply for a library card for their child, assume responsibility for the child's access to the public computers, both in terms of what the minor may use or access on the computers, and in terms of their adherence to the policies while using the computers.
- Access to the computers may be denied if the patron has outstanding loans or a block on their account for any reason. Please speak to library staff if there are any issues to resolve.
- Internet access on the public computers is unrestricted, but users must be aware that sites visited will be monitored. Users will adhere to a standard of "reasonable use" when it comes to downloading files etc.
- Wilful downloading of and/or access to objectionable or offensive material is grounds for suspension of computer privileges and even library access.
- Users may not download and install new software onto the library computers.
- Users are liable for any and all damages that may occur during usage of the computers. Please contact library staff if there are problems with the hardware or software - do not try to fix it yourself!
- Each individual library card holder is permitted a maximum of 120 minutes of computer use per day, and must vacate the workstation at the end of this time.
Lets work together to make sure everyone has fair access to this free resource in a safe environment!
